Lloyd’s List: European Oil Majors Lose Ground to Asia in Dirty Tanker Charters

“European oil companies have lost market share in the dirty spot-tanker sector as Chevron and charterers from Asia and other emerging markets gain business from shipowners, according to New York-headquartered brokers Poten & Partners’ list of the top 20 charterers last year. Although Anglo-Dutch oil major Shell held the top spot for the fifth year running, BP slipped to third place as China’s huge demand growth for crude oil pushed state-owned refiner Unipec, a subsidiary of energy giant Sinopec, from fifth to second place this year.”
