Tanker Midterms

June 28 2019: We have reached the middle of the year, so it is time to take stock of the spot fixture volumes in the tanker market and see if we can observe any movements in the rankings of the largest dirty spot charterers (yes, Unipec is still on top).  The overall volume of reported dirty spot fixtures in H1 2019 showed an unusual decline compared to the same period in 2018 (from 5,409 to 4,623).  The total cargo volume fixed on spot voyages also declined by 13%, similar to the decline in overall cargo volumes (using AIS data), mainly due to lower AG exports and lower imports into the US Gulf.
