Arbitrage economics to ship US tons to both Asia and Northwest Europe narrowed over the month of January amid lackluster demand for spot cargoes, resulting in fewer spot fixing and lower freight rates during the second half of January. Cargo fixing from the Middle East was also down in 2H January due to sluggish Asian demand ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday which increased the supply of vessels in both regions.
