TradeWinds: Venezuelan tanker exports plunge as US becomes ‘pirate of the Caribbean’

December 15, 2025 In a note titled, Pirates of the Caribbean?, US broker Poten & Partners said that despite US sanctions, the Venezuelan government had continued to export about 900,000 to 1m barrels per day of crude. “A democratic Venezuela would likely make the country more liberal and pro-market, addressing most of these concerns. Sanctions would be lifted, foreign investment would return and the country would get back on its feet,” Poten added.
