Admitting that its first prediction may be the most contentious, Poten suggests that the sanctioned tanker fleet will shrink this year for the first time since 2021. However, Russian crude oil production is expected to fall this year. The country’s ‘dark fleet’ has been able to divert ship exports from traditional customers in Europe to sell more in Turkey and longer-haul destinations including India and China. But importers of Russian crude are coming under more pressure, Poten says.
