16 Jan 2026: Venezuela has a bright future, but challenges remain Things can change quickly in the oil markets.  A few weeks ago, on December 12, 2025, we wrote a Tanker Opinion entitled “Pirates Of The Caribbean?”, discussing President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign against his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolas Maduro.  Now, Maduro is in custody in New York, and the United States is “running” Venezuela and its oil industry.  The situation is developing so fast that it is difficult to keep up.  What is happening in Venezuela, now and in the future, can have significant implication for the oil industry and the tanker market.  In this Tanker Opinion we will try to dissect what we know and what could happen in the future.
