More Pressure On Putin

One month ago, there was cautious optimism about a possible resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. President Putin and President Trump met in Alaska on August 15, and while the summit did not produce any formal agreements or jointly signed declarations, both leaders described the meeting as productive. However, there has been no progress since. President Putin and President Zelenskyy have not met and the Russian attacks on Ukraine have continued unabated. This has led to increased frustration among the members of the seven largest advanced economies, the G7, which are now actively considering a new round of sanctions targeting Russia. This latest push is led by the United States as President Trump said that his patience with Vladimir Putin was “running out fast”.
