In December 2013, Mexico made the necessary changes to its constitution to allow a widespread reform of the country’s energy sector. Until that time, in the oil, gas and power sectors, Mexico was a largely closed and monopoly-driven energy market, lacking in investment and productivity growth. The reform package, introduced by President Enrique Pena Nieto has bolstered long-term growth through increased efficiency and productivity.
