2Q 2026
The following is an excerpt of the Demand section of the Global LNG Outlook.
Singapore
In 2026 Singapore LNG imports are projected to be 6.7 MMt/y, up 2.6% compared with the forecast in 1Q 2026, mainly reflecting stronger power demand expectations and a firmer medium-term gas outlook. Demand growth is forecast to accelerate from 2028 onward, with LNG demand forecast to exceed 8 MMt/y, driven by increased LNG reliance as regional pipeline gas availability tightens. Overall, Singapore’s LNG demand is expected to continue trending upward over the long term, and is forecast to pass 11 MMt/y by 2046.
Near Term Outlook
- Singapore’s LNG demand is expected to remain resilient in the near term, supported by rising electricity consumption and the country’s continued dependence on natural gas, which accounts for around 95% of its power generation.
- LNG demand is expected to increase significantly to about 8.2 MMt/y in 2028 as pipeline gas imports from Indonesia decline. At the same time, GasCo’s centralized procurement framework is expected to improve LNG procurement efficiency and strengthen supply security over the coming years.
- Although heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could temporarily tighten LNG market balances and contribute to short-term market volatility, we do not expect a material impact on long-term LNG demand fundamentals in Singapore.
Structural Outlook to 2046
- We expect Singapore’s LNG demand to continue growing over the long term against the backdrop of rising electricity demand, declining pipeline gas supply and increasing energy security requirements. Rising electricity demand from data centers is expected to support long-term LNG demand growth, as Singapore continues to expand its digital infrastructure capacity and attract AI-related investments. Broader electrification across transport and industrial sectors is also expected to support higher gas-fired power demand over time.
- Singapore reinforced its position as the region’s leading LNG bunkering hub, with LNG bunker sales rising 23% y-o-y to 570,000 tonnes in 2025 amid continued LNG adoption. This growth momentum extended into 2026 with 1Q 2026 sales exceeding 1Q 2025 by 48%.
- These developments align with our long-term view that Singapore’s LNG demand will rise steadily from around 9.6 MMt in 2030 to around 11.1 MMt in 2046.
