South Korean petrochemical expansions to boost LPG imports

TOC:  South Korean ethylene expansion projects have the potential to add nearly 1.7 MMt/y LPG demand by 2023.

In the past year, discussions about expected LPG demand growth in China starting in 2019 due to the second phase of PDH plant buildouts have overshadowed the potential LPG demand growth in South Korea due to expansion projects that will increase the country’s ethylene capacity by nearly 47% by 2023. Several ethylene plants in the country are adding capacity to utilize more LPG as feedstock to diversify and stay cost competitive amid growing competition with producers in China and the US.
