Cheniere Energy Taking Growing Share of Global Market

12 January 2018: With four liquefaction trains now online and three others more than 70% complete, Cheniere Energy says it is on its way to becoming the world’s fifth-largest LNG supplier in 2020 behind Shell, Qatargas, RasGas and Petronas. After the Qatargas-RasGas merger, Cheniere would be the fourth-largest LNG supplier. It is already the biggest buyer of natural gas in the US. Cheniere plans for its share of the global LNG market to include the LNG-hungry Far East, where Cheniere Marketing Inc. (CMI) has nearly completed deliveries under two short-term contracts signed with Japanese power companies, while the company has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China’s CNPC.
