Stephen Thompson

Stephen manages Poten’s Asia-Pacific practice, based in Perth, Australia. Much of Stephen’s consulting work has centered on providing strategic, commercial, and financial advice to independent oil companies in developing LNG projects and monetizing gas reserves. He has also advised extensively on flexible LNG trade; price forecasting, arbitrage, and hedging; and short-term LNG procurement. Formerly, as Exploration & Production Manager for Chevron in Colombia, Stephen was responsible for a business supplying 90% of Colombia’s natural gas needs. During his tenure, negotiations with the state oil company set the stage for a major expansion that included construction of a gas export pipeline to Venezuela. Before that, as Fiscal and Planning Manager for Texaco in Angola, he was part of a team that more than doubled oil output. Stephen has a MA in Law & Diplomacy from Tufts University, a Masters in International Business from the University of South Carolina, and a BA in International Economics from Valparaiso University. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
